Roi Soleil

Inspired by Louis XIV's inaugural firework festival, the Roi Soleil collection is a hypnotic celebration of the baguette stone cut.

The Inspiration

The Roi Soleil design takes inspiration from Louis XIV's inaugural firework festival which took place at the Palais de Versailles. Cassandra remains in awe of the artistic brilliance of the Palais de Versailles which was created by the collaboration of three great French artisans – Louis Le Vau, André La Nôtre and Charles Lebrun. Versailles remains to this day a celebration of the extravagant beauty of art and the Roi Soleil design is an ode to the magical mastery of Versailles.

The Design

The Roi Soleil design is created using gemstones cut in the baguette style first created in 20th century France. The baguette cut is a fragile and challenging stone cut as it accentuates the flaws or inclusions of a gemstone and requires highly skilled craftsman to perfectly cut and place. When cut correctly baguette cut gemstones are both subtly and beautifully radiant.

The Craftsmanship

The Roi Soleil designs requires long tapered baguettes which are challenging to source due to the expertise required to cut such a shape. For many of the jewels, Cassandra spent months sourcing uncut gemstones which she could specially cut to fit her Roi Soleil designs. Baguette cut gemstones are highly fragile due their fine width and require skilled and careful setting to ensure they do not shatter or chip. Each Roi Soleil jewel is the result of many hours of craftsmanship.
